We cover disasters in detail at ArchitectureWeek because where people plan for and put buildings, how we design, construct, and energize our buildings are crucial to human life.

With the fundamental responsibility for life safety that A/E/C professionals share, we need to understand disasters better, to prevent them better.

In addition, in the coverage of most major disasters, there are innumerable technical aspects that mainstream media seem to blur and mis-emphasize.

In our mission of bringing the best to professionals, and providing that openly to the general public as well, it often seems useful to provide concrete information with a higher level of technical integrity, and a broader, less entertainment-biased perspective, than mainstream media often can muster.

We make choices about what disasters to cover based on our feeling of their A/E/C relevance, based on what our staff backgrounds and research capabilities can offer to the story, and based on the size of any gap we perceive between mainstream coverage, and what we may be able to bring together and present.

We hope you find some value in the periodic disaster coverage in ArchitectureWeek.
