What discussions --- you newer had anything to say , unless your obvious sick obsession , and your audience make jokes about your psykopatic rages ; no humor, nothing positive visionary or anything relevant at all.
Newer a drawing, newer a funny story, nothing anyone can profit from -- only vain complains as an old saur man who hate the world and in particular guy's that is clever.

Stop going in circles, just prove 3dh works
This PC makes me laugh. Obsession... He obviously has this obsession with 3dh and it is driving everyone on these forums crazy, and then he accuse others of obsession as well.... To each his own. One promotes 3dh. Another some building system. Another some 3d service. Another some artist service. Another some system of nano technology. Everyone is out to promote their thing with an obsession. And PC is obsessed with 3dh and his Silver Screen. It is obvious.
He claims others have discussion, now this is convenient. Rather, he cares not to respond in any logical way to the discussions. Rather he posts his 3dh stuff all over the place in discussions that have nothing to do with 3dh. Then he claims he is participating in the discussions.... and then, nobody can understand half of what he says.... this is the joke of the day....
Now, he cares to turn all the discussion topics into an argument on 3dh and to tries to get everyones attention to how smart you he is, and how he can prove usarender is a fool. His tactics are clear.
Why doesn't he just prove this 3dh thing and that it works, rather then resort to personal attacks and attempting to turn these forums into a personal battle ?
Now the PC Parrot into action.

Re: Arch. History
It's interesting how people still question history and its importance.. I've just finished my first semester of my master's program in architecture, and took arch. hist. class. Does anything actually exist without knowing its history? not only in architecture, but in science, medicine, literature.. Nothing can be understood or developed without analyzing where it comes from and why.. I'm not that familiar with all the 'isms you guys are talking about.. But simply, history and its value is what's shaping our world now, and will shape it in the future... I'm not saying that we focus on the history itself and forget about the future, but think of it as a line that in order to have an "extension", it should have "beginning"... weird analogy.. I know...

The arts and crafts style that lasted many years and brought maybe the best of just arts and crafts, was soon over with more mashin made things, just a bit design and you has an item that cost a quarter and often are much less fragile -- it can the same and maybe even last longer pr is so cheap that when it's broken you buy a new ; if that's learning from history, today's technikes and crafts can forsee a much more cruel desteny when cigital for real, is realised and develobed further.

and you still see history as something that is not supposed to exist. And throughout this discussion on architectural history you have not provided us with any solid reason to have history banned or thrown out of architecture.

For historians it is nice to know that architecture evolved, so various collum types can tell, when a particular temple are build. But I am not historian, and don't need to know what details prove in what years particular buildings are build, based on study in architectural history.

Then what from architectureal history do I need, need with a method simply not seen before, not used before, where nothing can be refered ,as a computer now do things impossible before in architectural history ?
Just nothing is usefull, and if I think so wouldn't I restrain future architecture.
Is bricks realy good for a new Eiffel tower ? --- So far from the materials used in history are these new methods ,and realy if I spend my time studying history, what I find there is allready it is not new. Can not compare any way as like bricks is good enough even they can't build a new Eiffel Tower.
That's how simple it is -- if it was there it would not be new, and as it is new, nothing from the past, can be the measure. -- those measures must be found on the new method's terms .

When we talk about architecture - we talk about how to contain a human being. At it's essence, Architecture seperates US from Nature and it's Forces - wind, rain, snow, sun heat etc., etc...
Architecture is built to contain a human being. To seperate the human from it's natural enviroment.
That - is the purpose of Architecture.
And it doesn't matter what the 'functionality' of the building is.
Architecture is very critical to how we as a race - develope ourselves. So when you study the history of architecture, you are really looking at all the various theories, and it's styles, of how we are and have been contained.
Hence F.Ll.W.'s Natural House, Gropius bauhaus, etc., etc... The list of those who have preached how a human being should be contained is a very very interesting study. And it is one of my favourite subject matters. Hopefully next year my first book on Architecture [two volume set] will be published, it is entitled - The Quality of Architecture.
Throughout all of architecture's history, architects and builders have always used new methods for design and construction, I don't see you're point P.C.
Take care...

T.A.,
I think you need to rephrase your assertion.
"When I talk about architecture- I talk about how to contain a human being."
"Contain" has a rather grim connotation to it, rather like an animal in a cage.
How about "protect" from Nature ...or is that simply too conventional?

Yes but that for most parts been new materials to replace an old material but in same context, same technike. Only very rare there been a paragime shift that ordered a complete rearange of building parts new systems and methods are different than better materials, and most often it has been not the intire thing but parts of a structure that profited progress.

Exactly! But it runs a lot deeper and darker ...and talks about the ignorance we have as a race/species.
Look, look here birgco - look at the silly little humans, all caged in... visitors can come by and give them some candy!
I could show you millions and millions more.
But take a look at this cage/container birgco recently featured here on ArchitectureWeek, the Milwaukee's Urban Ecology Center. [The second and third image]
This friggin container/cage is said to... "...simply radiates with a special kind of wholistic beauty. It's a charming, efficient, respectful, and delightful structure, and more. "

"...and more." Wow, ain't that friggin special!!
Take care...

T.A.,
I understand your point but it's a lot like the glass half empty/half full argument.
There is poor literature, art, cinema, music, human behavior,
architecture etc. etc. but of course one can also find brilliant,
inspiring examples of all the above.
It maybe just depends of what one chooses to dwell upon.

Sports Pallace by Pier Luigi Nervi
The most attractive aspect of Per's 3dh to me is its quality of being an explicitly manmade geometry whose form and fabric can echo the natural world, in profile and in "ordered and repetitive complexity."
SDR
SDR,
This 3dh thing and ribbed vault architecture is actually nothing new. One just needs to do a little research to demonstrate similar systems have been done before, and often anything resembling it has been done independent of this system.
For example -->>

Palazzetto dello Sport
Built for the 1960 Olympics, the palazzetto is a modest sports stadium in an innovative concrete dome. Designed by Pier Luigi Nervi it hosted boxing among other sports during the Olympic Games. The innovative dome is made of ribbed reinforced concrete. The lower half of the dome has continuous ribbon of window the whole way around the circular stadium, beneath the elegantly ribbed, white-painted concrete ceiling. A wonderful space. Pier Luigi Nervi was educated and practised as a "building engineer" in Italy. After 1932, his aesthetically pleasing designs were used for major projects. This was due to the booming number of construction projects at the time which used concrete and steel in Europe and the architecture aspect took a step back to the potential of engineering. Nervi successfully made reinforced concrete the main structural material of the day. He died in 1979.

Rome's New Auditorium Parco della Musica
Rome's new Auditorium, designed by Renzo Piano, was officially opened on April 21, the mythical date of foundation of the city. The day featured music and concerts in a celebration that lasted 24 hours and involved hundreds of world-renowned artists.

Auditorium Parco della Musica
The Parco della Musica is a large public music complex on the north side of Rome, exploiting a spacious site that was part of the 1960 Olympic area. It is composed of three separate giant bug-like halls whose forms are inspired by musical instruments. Positioned around an open air amphitheatre, the halls look like three enormous ‘music boxes’, whose colours and materials recall those of the domes dotting the urban landscape of Rome. Each concert hall differs from the other in terms of dimension and functions, but they are all characterized by an extreme flexibility and versatility of the space. By these means, space can be regulated and adjusted to the nature of performance, where floor and ceiling can be moved to adjust the acoustic properties of the wall. The interiors are entirely made of cherry-wood, which best resolved acoustic problems.

Atomic Design Introduces Honeycombs[/url]
Atomic Design Inc.
October 31, 2006
Lititz, Pa (October 2006) - Atomic Design Inc. announces its newest and most exciting product: The Honeycomb. Introduced at LDI 2006 in Las Vegas, The Honeycomb debuted at the Coemar Lighting booth and immediately created huge interest.
The inspiration: a synthesis of tensile structure and cell kite technology. The result: individual dimensional and collapsible units that can be hung in columns or interconnected to form walls of any shape or size. Its best feature, according to Tom McPhillips, the creative force of Atomic Design, is its versatility. "If you are hanging The Honeycombs in a freestanding environment, they create a very distinct look from every angle. By merely turning the structure ninety degrees the units can look completely different."
Like many Atomic products, The Honeycomb works well to enhance a broad range of events from corporate to rock-and-roll. "The Honeycomb can be used in almost any setting," explains Soren West, President of Atomic Design. "The structure works really well with lighting, and depending on the nature of the lighting applications, it can take on innumerable looks."

Soon to post more samples to demonstrate my point that there are many architects and samples that may resemble something this pc guy has done, but that have been developed independent of his system. This guy therefore proceeds to accuse all who produce anything resembling 3dh, or that even demonstrate that 3dh does not work. Now, he proceeds to attempt to slander me, creating a topic solely for such purpose. 3dh is history.
