Low Cost Housing - a great subject for this forum

Postby Steve Woolf » Wed Aug 04, 2004 6:20 pm

I'd like to congratulate Peter Camilleri (http://www.designcommunity.com/forums/v ... php?t=1423) for his commitment and courage to address the worldwide need for very low cost housing as a commercial venture. I wish him success!

Considering the annual incomes of most people on this earth, even $2000 sounds too high to me, so I would think a positive discussion of the technical and human issues would be useful to Peter and others in this field. This is a subject that has gotten lots of attention in the academic world and deserves more practical consideration.

I hope this post starts a constructive discussion.

Low Cost Housing

Postby Peter Camilleri » Thu Aug 05, 2004 9:30 pm

Dear Steve,

I thank you gracefully for your encouragement.

Over the last couple of years I have been accused of creating prisons, dog boxes, shanties, and bronx type villages.

It is great to finally receive some encouragement for some of the thoughts and ideas as well as the work I have put into the development of low cost housing systems.

Ultimately my aim would be to produce the same building materials that my design is based on in the country where the need for housing is. My aim in doing so is not to increase profit but to deliver an even cheaper product without compromising quality or durability. This would have an added benifit in creating more jobs and hence less poverty in the areas where the houses are being built.

I like to old proverb "Give a man a fish and you have satisfied his hunger for one day. Teach a man how to fish and you have cured his hunger forever".

Once again thank you for your comments and I would be very happy to discuss other ways that we can develop the ultimate low cost housing system.

Regards

Peter Camilleri
