This may be strange but....
I'm a writing student, currently studying sub creation in fantasy literature and I have come across a bump in the road regarding my own sub creation.
The problem is, i have no idea what kind of stone and other materials would be suitable to build a huge spire. The materials have to be easily available in a desert environment. My own research has led me around in circles, the only thing I’ve managed to discover is the various load bearing shapes certain 'ancient' structures use.
If someone can point me in the right direction i would be much obliged.

This don't answer your question but try read about it -- the 'problem the architect faced was that it was an expensive task to build a stone spire for this church beside, he was in doubt if a stone one would be even possible due to design and size so , as one or rather as the first structure this kind, he mimiced a stone one by having a timber structure build ------ much less weight and cost and copper sheaded it now been lasting with it's enginous shape for centuries ; look for the "history pages in this english version of the church's homepage it's one of denmark's most famous churches ;
