Wicked

Postby Phil Carvey » Sun Apr 09, 2006 12:03 pm

Here is an email I sent to Corbis complaining of my frustration in searching. If anyone feels the same, can you please contact me.
I see Corbis in latin means "wicker basket" ! me thinks they got that wrong too, maybe a "wicked" basket

EMAIL BEGINS....

Just a small piece of advise.

I must tell you, there is know way I would sign up to the Corbis photo/picture library service. Why, you may ask!. a fair question, and I'll gladly answer.

I have just spent and wasted over an hour of my time searching through your so called library for some simple examples of Restaurants , Cafes, instead, I have had to endure viewing through hundreds of unrelated pictures, of the following....

Dogs ( no cats thank goodness), Football players, Boats, Musicians, Skyscrapers, Trash cans, Kitchen utensils, Flower sellers, African people, B-listers selling their books, Princess Diana, Politicians, Tattoos, Nudists, George Bush and other Weirdoes, I could go on and fill this entire page with other unrelated categories .

Does anyone in your organization understand the concept of a Library? or indeed more importantly a Photo / Picture Library, I doubt it.
Maybe you believe you have such a person, as perhaps someone is receiving a good salary to do so. If so, can I suggest you find a replacement as a matter of urgency, as the present person responsible is losing you business.

The person responsible for the present cataloguing of your Pictures ( an impressive collection, which I will admit is excellent,) really is doing Corbis a disservice, I have been told by Architects, Designers, your so called library is second only to National Geographic, well maybe it is comprehensive. But what is the use of having all this wonderful material if you can't find what your looking for.

It seems to me your method of cataloguing is based upon some sort of social study, I'm sure most of the above unrelated subjects have a social context with eating out and so forth, but you are selling a service that does not provide easy access. It seems to me it is a case of hit and miss.

A simple question to you. If you were researching a subject ,say, Musicians and thought maybe I will go to my local book lending Library.
which section would you go to? . If your not sure, I will give you a clue, will it be under.. Catering, Architecture, Politics, Sport, Flower arranging or Music.
I will be interested to see if you reply, and if so, what possible excuse you offer to explain this appalling service.

Have a nice day Phil Carvey
