Sci-Arch is considered by many to be one of the top design schools on the west coast. Headed up by Eric Own Moss, a major deconstuctivst, (although I hear Colombia is really similar) that could be a major drawback if you want to work in a firm one day outside Los Angles or New York. Schools like Sci-Arch give you a change to really explore deconstructivst theory in a city that is pretty much about to destroy itself…

I went there during a visit to Los Angles and the students were having a major pinup. Some of the students work was really impressive in terms of context and dialogue. The work had to deal with elevations primarily. The studio was all about facades and how people perceive buildings through the mere color or signage of a façade. Very interesting stuff.

Other schools with similar reputations are RISD, YALE, OREGON, HARVARD and PENN. If your really looking to go to California, San Francisco is a much better city and has the California College of Arts, one of the oldest and most respected architectural schools in the nation. But if you want to go to L.A, there is no better school than Sci-arc…

Good luck
