I have 3dimensional AutoCAD dwg files and wish to flatten onto one plane. I have downloaded a flatten.lsp but it does not work. I have heard of a project.lsp which might work and would be very greatful if i could find out where to get it from.

Why didn't the flatten lisp not work? I have one named that before. You do know that the Bonus Tools has a flatten command, don't you? It should work. |

 Do you have express tools? Express Tools has a built-in flattener. You'll have to unload the flatten.lsp and then open AutoCAD and type flatten. This utility will remove hidden lines too. |

what do you mean by flatened from 3d to 2d? try having multiple view ports and copy it into a new file by window selection!!!

I work completely in 3D and the flatten command in Autocad 2007 is terrible. It doesn't work all the time. The program seems to get stuck on complicated blocks. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it as well. Currently my way around this is to us a DXB.pc3 printer options, but it creates huge files, and as it is my files are huge already.

I suggest try Make2d in Rhinoceros
the ACIS geometry from acad always comes over beautifully for me to go back the otherway if you want to keep that ACIS 3d data export SAT and do acad command acisin.

Well since you have 2007 try the new Flatshot command...
I have used it a few times and it has worked well for me. Good luck  |

| Good idea, the only issue with that is it only works for solids. My blocks are wireframe. |

I didn't try it. I won't by that product just for the flatten command, and using the free trial will just show me what I can't have ...lol.

depends how often you have to do it and how possible it is to replace autocad for you for the 195 it would cost if you took a class in anything.

Thanks for the offer Surfman.
That's not a logical option for me since I flatten drawings a few times a week.
I was hoping someone had an autocad solution.
The issue seems to be when I work with blocks that were created in 3d solid works and exported to an autocad format. Alot of our blocks are like that now.
In any case, there doesn't seem to be an easy answer. I will continue to print to a dxb file until Autodesk figures this one out.

ya acad is old tech
autodesk just wants your money and in return doesn't listen or innovate or even copy for that matter they are constrained by the IP capitalist system and they want to take away freedom with other constraints and uninteroperability.
i feel like Rhinoceros Leap frogged those fools back in Aug. not to mention their CEO went to Bush admin science team, what a joke, can somebody say Cronyism ?

I just tried to flatten an object with a "flatten" lisp made of 3d lines, no faces or solids and it worked for me. Can you share a sample with me to try? I can see if I can get it to work on my "old tech"
