My buddy just drew a really sick interpretation of incorporating a sail into a home design. I remember immediatelly a hotel somewhere in the middle east that was recently completed in the last few years.

I think it was a main hotel / conference center. The curve in the building represents a sail. The hotel itself in on a manmade island that was put together just for the building. Its pretty big building I am talking about.

I think it was on the water off some middle eastern location near Oman, Yemen, Bahrain or Brunei .. I forget the country and thats what is making it hard to find.

If anyone can name the building, I am going to blow my friend away when he sees this thing.

Thanks!

The Marina Baie des Anges at Villeneuve-Loubet in south of France, designed in the 70s by Andre Minangoy. The blocks are shaped like sails.

My guess is you're thinking of the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai, by Tom Wills-Wright...

"Burj Al Arab Hotel, a billowing sail-shaped structure soaring 321 meters above the Arabian Gulf, symbolizes the very essence of Dubai embracing the best of new alongside traditions of the past. Guests can transfer from Dubai International Airport by Rolls Royce Silver Seraph Limousines."

There's a decent exterior overview photo lower down on this page:

what an awful building, i have thought this to be, as one that is supposed to be hailed as wonderful new architecture.

no context, no interesting design, an interior full of kitsch and timeless glitsch. tacky.

what a shame.
