Hello All,
I'm presently in the process of desiging a small building out of an ISO steel shipping container.
Since the interior is already rather slim and the exterior is a tad too industrial for my tastes, I am looking for an exterior insulation solution. I was wondering if a layer of sprayable shotcrete over the entire structure (minus the door and window) might be the best means to provide the needed insulation, retain my limited interior space, and give the outside a more traditional appearance.
Any thoughts, suggestions, or any ideas for alternative methods would be appreciated.

I'd wrap it in 2" min. EIFS and apply as many horizontal and vertical reveals in the application to make it look like you've put a bow on it, and of course to break it down in scale. This application comes in a variety of colors and textures, so you could really have fun mixing and matching the context of your neighboring containers.
Shotcrete = traditional appearance??? not! |

Thanks Donald, I'll look into that. Btw, I was thinking that perhaps I could obtain an adobe or stucco style look with the shotcrete.
Also, I should mention that this structure will be located in an area very prone to hurricanes. Would the EIFS hold up? |

| There is a product called SUPER THERM which is ideal for this application. It is a multi-ceramic insulation coating which will repel 98% of the heat away from the outside surface. It is completely weatherproof and flexable and is only 10 dry mils (thickness of a busness card) An architectural firm in Seattle is building a low income housing project with shipping containers and plans to utilize this high tech insulation which will perform on all three modes of heat transfer (conduction,convection radiation). No other insulation does this. |

I'd explore Donald's proposal. If it's appropriate for the climatic environment, sounds like a nice approach. But I'm not big on "wet" exterior materials, other than precast or poured-in-place concrete. . .
