Show your Residential Design Skills to the World!
http://www.freegreen.com/whosnext/
FreeGreen.com is looking for talented designers who can bring progressive design ideas to mainstream America. With 400,000+ visitors per year, 36,000+ house plans distributed per year, and 20,000+ registered members FreeGreen.com is the largest source of Residential Design in the world. Now we want to use this audience to promote new Architects and designers, and increase the influence of thoughtful and sustainable Architecture in the Residential arena.
Whether you are a young designer or an industry veteran, Who’s Next is the perfect contest to kick start a new firm or revitalize an existing one.
All entries will be promoted in an online environment - and the stars will be you. Unlike other competitions the purpose of Who’s Next is to expand your viewing audience, and encourage them to reach out to, and communicate with, you as their favorite contest entrants.

Interesting.
Looks more like an attempt to get architects and designers to post their plans on their website for $200 a pop. And whatever it costs to have them covert your design into construction documents. (I think I was reading that correctly)
Still - if you had something to submit - it might be worth it. If you get a decent number of public votes, it might give you the feedback you need to decide whether to pursue developing a line of stock plans. Whether you use this particular website or some other means to get your work out there - such as Checkpoint. |

That is the perfect reason to do a competition..... for fun. You will also be able to add to your own portfolio. |

Yeah - I have known about Greg's work for sometime. He is a PowerCadd user (or was) and was a frequent contributor on that board here at DesignCommunity. That board is a little inactive due to the stability of the program.
I really like Greg's work and he seems to have found a nice niche. |

Good job..........you got my vote.
Now why don't you articulate the "green" features behind the design. |

Traditional houses are really not ungreen. The modernist have done pretty well at embracing the Green movement and identifying modern style with it but this house can be energy efficient if built well.
Limited windows, good insulation, flexible space, the maximum allowable heated area was 1800 and I decided to cut that two about 1650, this leaves them some money to add more efficient appliances, etc.. _________________ -Chris Stewart

Chris, your work has always impressed me, and this home is no exception. Good job.
Have you prepared yourself to modify the design for the sake of a general contractor who wants to cut corners and save some money?
For example, uniform wall heights, or engineered roof trusses?
The multiple roof pitches may also be questioned, as well as access to a bonus room above the garage.
People see a window and automatically think, "There's another room up there!" |
