So I often find living in Phoenix that I'm attacked by bad architecture. As former fastest growing city in the country, much of Phoenix can be seen as a sprawling monster, with endless earth tone identical homes spreading out. However, the desert is a beautiful place, and some homes embrace it.

Here is one example of a home I really enjoy looking at... its in Paradise Valley, a wealthy suburb in the middle of Phoenix.

Nice Crisp modernism with lots of glazing looks like it would get hot and require lots of energy to keep it cool. To be a good design it needs to be perfect in it's physical performance with reasonable thermal performance and power consumption. This is now the age of sustainability and looking good simply is no longer enough. I was not sure where the entry was or which photo captured the approach angle to the house, private vs, public space is clear in the floor plan not so clear in the elevation shots.

This house ignores everything we know about the climate where it was constructed. That said it has a nice interior and exterior character, is code compliant and the surfaces are beautiful and reasonably low energy embodied material.

Best of all it is not too big, or grandiose, it is solidly in possession of human scale with elegant studied proportions. Characteristically such departure from the indigenous architecture of the region is risky as a speculative en devour.

Photography was adequate with at least two stellar shots of the exterior.
