| This may be a little off topic, but I was just browsing the Herman Miller website and they have a whole lot of modern designs trademark including the Eames Lounge Chair. Can someone please enlighten me as to how they were able to do this? |

Herman Miller owns the trademarks, because they either -
1) Hired the designers to create the furniture for them. These are usually kown as signature lines.
2) The designers sold them the rights to the design so that they could be mass-produced. If you want your work to get to our audience, you need someone who has the marketing, manufacturing, and shipping abilities to handle the job.
Don't seem so surprised. The Eames side chair was orginally manufacturered by a small furniture company (after the Eames quit making the chairs themselves), then it went to Herman Miller to get mass produced. From the photos I have seen of the original chair, Herman Miller was able to correct some serious design flaws with hardware and rubber cushions. Much of which is missing or broke on the early chairs. |
