I'm looking for any information as far as ideas or precedents I could look into for the following project concept...

I am trying to create a building that through parametrics can be made dynamic by the users to accomplish traffic calming...

Such that the building does not do this itself...but only when the users make this building do such...

This to give the users the power to fight traffic themselves, instead of simply reaping the benefits of a successful building that interrupts automobile traffic...

The building acts as a tool to be used by the users to interrupt and disrupt traffic.

Thanks for you help...

Hey Franco

Sounds like a good project, is it for school or to you have a client that wants you do this? If the later is the case what city or if your uncomfortable with giving the name of the city what region/state/province are you working in?

As I was saying earlier, I find what your trying to do is quite interesting as it furthers an interest of mine that is exploration into structure that evolve to the clients needs, the three concepts that I have been working with range from very tangible changes in form to, of course, intangible changes in form, with which I had the greatest success.

Intangible movement can consist of anything from movement of air to the use of natural or artificial light.

I would suggest that you explore these alternatives in a way that can create space or maybe in your case create spatial obstructions. You may also want to consider materials/tools such as water, steam, landscaping etc.

Hope this helps.

G.

This site is located in Boston, outside the downtown area...

This area is so dominated by the automobile and at the same time the community is so against this, to the point of passing zoning laws to state .75 parking spaces per unit.

Thus the idea to give people structures they can use to, even just at a sub-conscious level, fight and overcome this traffic problem coupled with the large amount of parking lots and street parking...

What's important to me is not to end up with a literal realisation of the concept...it has to work on a subtle level...perhaps even unknown to the users that inhabit the project...

I think i'm looking for an introduction of those possibly intangible design aspects to acheive what I'm trying to do to be tangible, but start to work together so as not to appear as several different specific objects but create one overpowering flow that is the project...

Hopefully this clarifies somewhat where I'm trying to go with it...
