Can a licensed architect in the States carries out a site survey work of a house lot for his client? What must an architect do before he carries out the survey? Does he require to find out the extent of the client ownership? Does architect involves in the boundary negotiations between the owner and the adjoining owners?
I would appreciate if someone could explain to me in details how the architectural profession carry out his duty in the States especially when it comes to site survey.

Most states, I beleive, have a separate registration system for surveyors, or land surveyors. These are the folks, with more of a civil engineering background, who perform the land, property line, and/or topogrpahical surveys for projects. They would research all the records, and make a physical traverse of the proeperty in the field and produce a drawing showing all of the property lines and elements on the site [can include contour lines, or spot elevation, utility lines locations/routes, man-made as well as natural features, streams, easements, etc.
If the architect also holds a licenseas a registered surveyor, then that person can do the survery work; if not, most jurisdictions will require that a certified/registered surveyor do the work.
The architect will use the resulting survery drawing as the basis for the site/plot plan for the new project. Thus the direct tie between the two, and the need for completeness and accuracy in the survey. |
