Hi everyone,

Right now I'm a highschool student in Canada (Ontario to be specific) and I I want to pursue an architecture career, but I'm confused whether to go to university or college. Naturally I'd assume going to University would be better for me career wise, but I've had people tell (who work in a very similar field) that it doesn't matter when you eventually graduate where you came from, its all about experience. Can anyone with knowledge on this topic or who is involved in architecture help me out? Is it better for me in the long run to go to University, or College? The only obvious positive I can think of going to college is that it will a lot cheaper, and one less year.

Again, I'm pretty confused, so any help is appreciated.

THANKS! Very Happy

If you are a self-starter and have will power to persue your goals, find the faster time-wise a way to get your degree and license. Find an Intern's position asap.

The words "university" & "college" are essentially the same thing if you're talking about schools that grant BA & BS degrees.

The important thing for you is to determine what the licensing requirements are for Ontario, or, if you plan to live elsewhere, that Province or state.

See the links below for more information.

I'm not sure what you mean by university or college- though going by your description i think you are comparing a 4 year BS degree to a 5 year professional degree. I have a 5 year professional degree and sometimes it helps especially if you are not planning to go for masters. If you plan to become a registered architect one day(US/Canada), a 5 year degree will help you qualify. some jobs also ask for a 5 year professional degree. I'll be glad to help you if you have more questions. PM me or get in touch on my website listed in my signature below.
