In days of old, some employers had you do a test. It might mean copying some text to demonstrate your lettering skill or a couple of drafting problems.
I have heard some firms providing a CAD test.
I am wondering if anyone here as developed a test for job applicants using PowerCADD or otherwise. I am thinking I might want to develop one for my firm, but I am wondering what to test.
I was thinking maybe some simple things typical of common "drafting" - then have them develop a wall section from a written description and/or a sketch.
And probably more importantly - I probably need to develop a "manual" or brief overview of using PowerCADD. IMHO - part of any position is the willingness (and ability) to look for solutions..... ie: read the manual to learn how to use software. |

Most likely.... right now I have an friend (who was laid-off) coming in to help me. But he does not know CAD - so his time and help will be limited to spec writing, Field work, and code research. Of course - he could easily learn PC.
I typically hire grad students as interns/assistants, but I am thinking I want to find/train someone to do CAD and have something more long term. But I need to develop some way to gauge someone's basic abilities. |
