It runs, but not quickly. The nice thing though is that when you do upgrade to 8, it'll blow you away.

I recently purchased a "Refurbished" iMac 24" 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme and PowerCADD 6, 7 and 8 all appear to be running fine in OS X 10.5.4.

I don't have actual speed tests at this stage as I'm working on some other things. Perhaps over this coming weekend I'll have a chance and will report back here.

Derek:

I am looking to finally break down and invest in an Intel Mac myself, but can't afford to upgrade by current PC version as well (yet). I was under the impression that PowerCADD 6 did NOT run on the Intel machines? Can anyone confirm that for me?

Jeffrey ... you seem to be quite savvy in these matters? Is that the case?

Thanks![/u]

PC6 does run just fine for the most part on the Intel computers under Leopard. However, it is prone to causing the "window server" process to crash, and when that happens you essentially get "force logged out". So not only do you lose any unsaved work in PowerCADD, you lose unsaved work in all the other programs you happened to be running at the time.

This is a difficult one to track down, because there is no real pattern or trigger for it. Some people would have this happen nearly a half dozen times a day (on 24" iMacs), yet other people with the same computer would only see it a few times a week. On a Mac Pro I only experienced this problem once or twice a month. I never found anything to explain why it was a problem for some people more than others, and since I don't work there (or anywhere for that matter) anymore, I can't investigate it further.

So the best advice I can give is that while it does run (and it doesn't run badly by any means), the potential for this crash is there, and it's a doozy. You could run into it a lot, or almost never, but there's no way of knowing, so beware. Your best bet would be to set your save interval to something like 5 minutes, and not leave unsaved/important work open in other programs while you're drafting.

Thanks Jeffrey, I'll keep that in mind. I'm from the school of "save early and often", so hopefully any potential lost work will be minimal! I'm just glad to know that PC6 indeed does operate on Leopard ... can't afford to many extra costs these days. Sorry to hear about your job loss.
