I often work with Colors by Layer assigned as an easy check to ensure objects are on the correct layer. When I go to print however, I usually am printing to a non-color printer so don't want the colours, but would prefer all my lines to be black.

Under Drawing Setup > Print > Colors, if I set it to "Black and White" all my fills turn to black. (I can't see why anyone would use this setting, unless they have no fills.)

If I set it to Grayscale, the fills are nice, but the lines are turned to grayscale according to the color and are not as crisp.

Would it not be better to have an option to set all lines to black, but set fills as grayscale?

(By the way, I previously made use of WT "Black Color for All" command as a work-around, but it's behaviour has changed in PC8/WT9.)

I use the Drawing Setup > Print > Colors, and set it to "Black and White" and don't have any problems. I guess it might be that I rarely use solid color fills. Normally, my fills are one of the gray fill patterns (in the left-hand) column of the fill palette) and they look great when printed in black and white. Also, white fills remain white when printed.

let me know if this helps or confuses,
patrick

Thanks for your response Patrick.

It may well be that I should limit the fills I use to "Fill Patterns" only, and avoid any "Fill Colours".

I do use fill colors, too, but if the fill pattern is a grayscale one, then the fills will print as grayscale instead of black. Probably different colors of the same fill pattern would print as different shades of gray -- I haven't experimented to see.

The fill color is converted to black in B&W mode, so different fill colors with the same fill pattern all print the same.

I just use the grayscale filter in the print dialog.
