Hi! I am an industrial design engineering student, and I'm working on a tent/shelter for refugees.

My question is: What makes people feel secure in an environment and how can I apply this to my tent? Basically I just want the tent to feel cozy and secure like home... any suggestion on how to design the spaces in this tent?
(All suggestions are welcome. I suppose you architects have much more knowledge about this than I have)

thank you!

Any tent for refugees is a welcome shelter to protect them from the weather.

The family tent has to have a place to do some cooking, refugees are free to accomodate their needs according with their customs.

If you are trying to design a "commune" tent for refugees, the basic needs for a counselor, for a nurce, for food distribution, may be of concern.

Consult with your local Red Cross, they may have literature fitting your needs.

The yurt is a tent-home. look to that for some structural tips. I think maybe some elevation or a platform would help. or conversely, sinking it into the ground in some manner, or surrounding it with bermed earth mounds would add to a sense of security and also keep the space cooler in hot climates.
