im currently a senior and am studying architecture for a final project and have not been able to get in contact with local firms and need as much help in the area.

some questions i believe would really help me out are:
1. what steps are needed to complete a project? Ex; permits, blueprints, models, area in general

2. what is taken in account when deciding where and what to design and build? (area, weather)

3. how many types of architecture is there? (Ex; oragnic, modern, classical) and what do they consist of?

last but not least

4. what would i need to know when wanting to build a 3000 sqft single floor home in Orange County, California?

ANY INFROMATION WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! THANK YOU

Since you posted a general question, the best that I can do is to provide general answers.
1-you will need the services of the following professionals:
architect/home designer, civil engineer, structural engineer to get your permit in Southern California. You may also solicit the services of these professionals, interior designer, landscape architect/designer, mechanical, plumbing & electrical engineer. And let's not forget the builder in this equation as well. Scale models are not necessary unless it is a requirement by the Community.
2-The criteria of a building program for a home is dictated by the home owner. For example, if the client is wheel chair bound, the architect is not likely to design a split level house for that person. Criteria under consideration are function, view, resale, budget, and of course aesthetics.
3-How many different styles of architecture? Too many!
4-What you need to know about building a home in Orange County:
is the particular property affected by the Coastal Commission.
What seismic zone is it in
Whether the area has any HOA restrictions
Any view obstructions to neighbors due to the new construction.
I'm sure I missed a bunch, but it's a start.
