Hello there, My name is Hugh Wigmore. I am a lighting specialist working for an engineering firm that has recently entered the lighting bus. I am contemplating approaching our local cities/counties public services depts. about LED lamp retrofits for street lighting. I understand this is going to be a monumental task that is going to take alot of research, and time. Anyone with any information/ experience on this topic that would like to eleborate would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds interesting Hugh. I would expect any attempts to get people to remove existing lighting would be an uphill battle! Street lighting is typically yellow, it would be quite strange to see a town lit-up with white light from LEDs.

I would look into studies on scotopically enhanced lighting. I remember seeing a study indicating that the low CRI sodium lamps showed poorer visual performance in night vision tests. As much as I hate to advocate for fear-mongering, you could make a case that the ugly yellow lights are a safety issue...
