new to this forum, have been on several times before and read answers to problems others have exsperienced!
here is new one!!
when i go to use the door insertion tool, iam prompted with a message saying lines not parralel.
however when i try it on the same set of lines on another computer it works ok

sounds strange. Have you checked that the lines are parallel by checking their angles in the edit box? Also could it be possible that there are extra hidden lines over the ones you think you are selecting?
