Dear Friends,

I seek advice on the subject of column spacings and beam sizes for residential design particularly on double storey houses. When designing living rooms and lounge area personally, i enjoy using open concept but i'm worried about the structural stability for the load on the upper floor. The column spacings i would like to use varies from 6 mtrs to 8 mtrs and sometimes 10 mtrs. My concern is, what would be the appropriate or safe/right depth of the reinforced concrete beams if i were to use 250mm x 250mm reinforced concrete columns?

Thank you in advance.
