learn code
for fire and handicap protection from ICC irc ibc etc

and study the ARE tests

find a architect to work for to get experience and access to libraries of details and examples of city approved CDs

also find a contractor to work for in the field to understand the materials and methods

The very first thing you should do is ask your self why you want to be an architect?
Thats very important.
write it down and keep it somewhere safe so you can look back at it and see if you are getting what you want from time to time.

You should also keep a journal in which you write down what you mean by "a very successful architect". This is different for many people. And you will see when you keep a journal this will change for you as you develop as an as a person and as an architect. You will be amazed!

after you have done those two things. I think you should try to get a job working in an architects office and see what it is like. Even if you are just taking out the garbage everyday you will learn a great deal. A lot of people are disappointed when they realize how it is to work for an architect after spending a lot of years studying architecture in college.

Look at this blog and see some of the issues that you will eventually deal with in making a name for yourself

....oops,

one more thing.

Don't waste your time looking at international code counsel documents, for fire and handicap protection or architectural registration exams.

You are in high school now, this is all very technical stuff that you don't need to concern your self with at this point.

Antisthenes were you drunk when you writing this?
how could you recommend this to a high school student?

Take it easy will ya!

actually are you sure you really want to be an architect?
as in my opinion, architect is not that easy~that why it is a professional job.
if you really want to be an architect, can you start learning sketching or what ever that is basic in drawing?
as it quite useful~
than try to build model,
but dun forget to read some design magazine, journal or books n others.
emm~dun forget to read some articles that are realated to some arhictect, as mayb next time u will know what u really want to be

well, its easy to say that you want to become an architect. but you need about 10 years of school + work experience + multiple examinations to become registered. have a high gpa in univeristy. its not just drawing floorplans but learning about designs, structures, codes, specifications. and having alot of responsibility for the work that you do or else companies can sue millions of dollars from you if a building is not up to the standard.

Architecture School...Is about design. You are in high school dont bother learning about codes. sturctures, idp, or even the ARE exams. if you really want to learn about architecture, take freehand drawings classes, go to museums (look at the art and architecture). The truth is Architecture school is a stepping stone you use to open the doors of your real Architecture education the work force. When you are in a Architecture program you will be learning about design and how to conceptualize and idea, The professors will teach you how to take that idea and develope it further so that you can be able to graphically communicate that idea. So the thing you should be doing is really sketching, sketch, sketch, sketch...Those are the things that will help you..So be a kid and enjoy your self go out with your friends..Because once your Architecture education begins..your life will become ARCHITECTURE.....and you will no longer have time for anything else.
