I have a Windows version of 3D Studio Max 5
I would like to place a flat, bitmap image (JPG, TIF, GIF, etc.) onto an object such as a standard primitive (sphere, cube, cylinder, etc). The effect I'm trying to get is a picture pasted onto an object like the face of a cube or wrapped around a sphere (like if you were to take an actual picture and glue it onto a ball).
I just want one image to show, not be a pattern on the face of the object - the object will have it's own color/texture and then have the image on it as if it were glued onto it (so it would have to conform to the image shape and can be faced in any direction when the object is rotated).
Is there a quick, simple way to achieve this effect? Whether or not it's simple, is there ANY way to achieve the effect and what are the steps to make it happen? _________________ ~ Mark G.

what you need is a mapping (with a bitmap). sounds like you already found this. you have to turn OFF the tiling (X and Y). also you need correct UV coordinates. in max theres something called UVW-Map, I think. Use a flat or cubic projection. _________________ Michael Bernhard
