May I offer my 2-cents worth [as architect and former code official];
1. Not understanding the need to move to the International Building Code and the time it takes to learn the new provisions.
2. Continued reluctance to come to grips with local code situations and address them in a positive, constructive, and professional manner; proposing changes in provisions and procedures.
3. Residual mentality to move ahead without due review, understanding and incorproation of code provisons and compliance in projects, starting at the programming level.
Incidentally, I know of a course synopsis for a college level building code course, which could [should!!!!] be adopted in all school sof architecture. Minimal time, but important part of young professionals education overall. |
