is there a way in PC6 to create a new line style, for instance a dashed line with 'x's on it to indicate a fence

Dash patterns must be straight line segments as shown in the Dash Pattern Edit dialog.

However, to create the type of fence graphic you're describing, I use the Objects On Path menu item.
1) draw the fence using a solid line pattern
2) create the 'x' (as text, two crossing lines or using the WT Marker tool)
3) Copy the 'x' from (2)
4) select the fence path from (1)
5) choose Tool menu > Objects On Path and specify "clipboard" as the source

The results are fast and can be modified easily.

One advantage to Objects On Path is the 'x' marker can be anything, squares, circles, etc.. They can also be spaced a specified distance if necessary and be symbols instead of simple objects which can assist in preparing quantity take-offs and the like.

Hope that helps
Brian

Abosolutely right. I use an "x" made of two lines crossing over a white-filled circle so that it interrupts a solid line. Very good results.
