autocad seems to be the "industry standard"
all of my consultants use it and its easy to send files back and forth (.dwg format)

archicad does have a save as (or convert or something) that you can ...

if you can...maybe you can try to talk directly to YOUR supervisor up front and ask him/her to define everyone's position on the project.
