If you do end up with a slider for door angle, could it snap to 30°, 45° and 90°? (or use radio buttons to move the slider to those pre-set angles)

If you're skeptical about the conic section, hobby stores will have styrofoam cones you can cut up yourself.

I have seen this from time to time. I usually just force a redraw. If you have a hot-key for it it's pretty effortless.
