Aloha,
Does anyone know what the industry standard is for an architect to charge a builder each time their architectural design is used? Is it a percentage of the building costs or market value, a flat fee, or other commission system?
Or, can anyone direct me to a resource or person who can help with this question?
In this scenario, the client is using a private architect that wants to charge the builder royalties each time the builder uses their design in the future. For this client's project, the builder will be making their own shop drawings and some changes to the design to ensure structural integrity. At this time, the builder is unsure how many new clients may want to use this particular design in the future. We are looking for a fair rate that will satisfy the builder and the architect.
Thank you for your time.
