| First time in the forum. Does anyone know the California State codes for putting in a staircase to the attic of your home. |

If you are accessing the staircase from your garage and it leads to an attic that is adjacent to your living area, you will need a solid core door to separate the garage environment from your attic environment.
If you are putting a regular staircase from your house into an attic space, the attic will become "habitable" space (because a regular stair is considered a "legal" entrance) and that will come with a whole new set of requirements relating to light and ventilation, heating, smoke detectors, etc.
Consult a design professional for your individual needs. |
