I was thinking the other day about my interest in the carriage house style of architecture.
It started way back when,
having grown up in a converted stable/carriage house in
Pennsylvania, this nostalgic style has always
meant the warmth of a large stone fireplace, beamed ceilings,
exposed interior stone walls,
(and if you're lucky enough, a couple of old barn doors leading
to an ancient workbench) .
One of the major attractions of taking on such a challenging project is starting with
a very traditional structure, never intended for human habitation, and creating a
personalized interior space with few limitations.
The toughest part of making the
whole thing work is finding one that hasn't
already been converted.
