Hi im a second year architecture student and im in need of help so badly!
we are designing a dance studio at the back of the royal theatre
i am looking at fluidity, and delicate movements of a belly dancer, and my main precedent is Longchamp store in NY by THOMA HEATHERWICK!
obviously im changing the style and making it even more floaty!
but its so hard to draw it on plan! i dont kno how to go about this one!
i have to consider
cafe, ticket box, technical room, dressin room, stage, foyer etc
any one got any ideas and suggestions???
thank you so much

I imagine you know about the Siobhan Davies Dance Centre by Sarah Wigglesworth? That has a great poetic rhythm and I would have thought would be a decent precedent if you are adding onto an existing building.
Maybe you need to model your early ideas? Gehry's wavy designs start with an abstract sketch then seem to develop through models with paper and card.
Maybe a section would say more than the plan?
If you are just starting out on your design, I expect the most important thing to fix in your mind is the relationship between the different elements of your studio - which spaces are biggest, smallest, widest, highest, need more daylight, access to the street, access to one another etc. |
