We have a lower deck and would like to waterproof it. The upper deck is standard decking herringbone-patterned floor. Could we use corrugated metal roofing to waterproof the ceiling area of the lower deck. Our thinking is to waterproof the seams of the corrugated metal roofing material with some type of roofing cement and slant it into a gutter running the width of the deck and letting it flow into a downspout at the end. Can the corrugated roofing betwaterproofed enough for this application? The corrugated metal would be slanted towards the outer end of the deck and then slanted toward one corner where the downspout would be located. :?:

Before you start buying material, check out this product at your local home store. I saw Underdeck or simliar product at the local UBC.

what a great product...excellent suggestion phansford. I was going to recommend they re-visit the wood deck and simply waterproof it by adding a flooring system over waterproofing membrane that would drain into typical gutters/dowspouts. The existing herringbone decking would then become the finished ceiling of the lower porch.

Thanks for the underdeck suggestion. I also found a system called dysnap on the Web that looks good too. We didn't want to cover up the perfectly good upper herrinbgone-patterned wood deck, so the underdeck or drysnap waterproof ceilings look like a better solution.

We use corrugated metal as the main roofing product here in Australia 80% of the time, so we have a huge experience with it.
I would not recommend it for the situation you have planned, under a deck. People here try it often as it is a cheap & easy to use material.
The joins usually rely on a min of 5deg slope & a slight difference in the last corrugation to produce a seepage proof seal.
Apart from sealling the joins the fixings are all made to be waterproofed from the side they are fixed from not the (inside).
