| I am a cabinetmaker, if it takes longer to draw than to cut, well thats just bad. I have no idea why you people would answer my questions for free but it seems you will so here goes. I can take a 4 by 8 sheet of plywood, make two cuts and create an "L" but I can't seem to do this seamlessly in the model. Sorry, not in the form of a question. Next, how can I orient the grain direction in lights and textures? Even better how can I replace that wood grain with a picture of the 4 by 8 sheet I plan on using for the furniture project? I just love those pictures in the materials, it seems to me one could do the same with some stock veneered product only lock the size, import, cut (I mean trim to size), copy, paste and duplicate as necessary to create book matched doors, architecural paneling etc. Thanks, Greg |

I answer questions for free because it doesn't take long, and it helps whoever reads this, not only yourself.
To get an 'L' shape in DesignWorkshop (I assume that's what you meant) you must use the Polyline tool to actually trace out the shape of the 'L' and then extrude it for depth in the Object Info Window. DesignWorkshop does not allow the user to seamlessly cut out the corner of a rectangle as you suggest. I should mention for the benefit of others that a seam will interrupt the pattern of a texture, so continuous flat surfaces must be made from one object to avoid that.
As for using custom photos for textures, I have no experience doing that, but it is possible. Here is a link to DesignWorkshop Hints & Tips page: click on the "Making Your Own Tiled Textures" link for what you are after:

Thanks SS, I tried that, using Paintshop pro to get a weatherbaord effect and when I added the pict file to the gallery, DesignWorkshop even asked if I wanted to update the programme to include the new file.
However, it does not offer the new texture/ pict file/ as an option in the materials. Anyone know how to get the software to do that?
