Cement and gypsum production releases CO2 that was bound in rock for millions of years.
It is said that one pound of cement releases one pound of CO2 into the atmosphere, plus the amount of CO2 released from maintaining tempuratures over 2750F / 1500C by burning of fuels for the extended periods of time necessary to breakdown the rock.
These industrial process are second after fuel burning in generating manmade greenhouse gases.
Alternative construction materials such as the new boarding material www.magnesiacore.com releases up to 80% less CO2 to produce. |
