To me the concept of this "self-mass damper" seems just stunningly brilliant.

What do you think? Am I missing something? Have you seen this structural engineering innovation used before?

Compare the self-mass damper to the classic - though in itself still quite innovative - damping pendulum approach used at Taiwan 101...
