It is-- and in all forms; drawing, sketching, manual drafting and computer-aided drafting.
You need to be able to visualize and capture information in a drawing mode for various reasons.

Absolutly critical and valued in any given scenario - as it's the first port-of call for communicating ones idea.
Go to life classes and sketch the buildings around your city. The more you do you'll soon improve. |

If it is a decent course, they will spend the first few months improving your architectural drawing skills. Don't worry, people come to architecture with different talents. Make sure you buy yourself a sketchbook and take it around with you as much as you can. Believe me, after 3-5 yeasr at college your drawing skills will improve no end |

it is essential for a quick conveying of your ideas. there are many architects out there that don't draw a piece of art... as long as you can get your idea across and later make them 100% clear (with use of drafting tools, a computer, or a better trace-over).
practice will help!
I would say go ahead and find buildings and/or things that interest you. Take these items and draw them to the best of your ability! |

| drawing is not only important, it is VITAL... it's like the ultimate way that you can clear out your ideas to your client, and most especially to yourself... like some sort of ARCHITECT'S LANGUAGE... otherwise, you will have to devise some other way of seeing these spaces... but for me, nothing beats drawing it via the hand (not the PC although that is fun as well). |
