I am planning to apply to graduate school this fall but have not yet decided on where to apply - within the US or outside. About three years ago, I graduated with a BA Arch from UC Berkeley and have been working in Europe since.
What concerns me now is the quality of the program and flexibility of courseload at graduate school. As I am interested in sustainability and conservation ecology, I would thrive in an academic environment that is open to accepting my research ideas. I would like to avoid going through another 4+ years of school, or throwing away my architecture degree, rather, build in on my experiences.
This probably means I would have to eliminate architectural institutions specializing in just architectural design (such as the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam, albeit an excellent program), since I would have to use other fields of discipline in order to complete my degree. If anybody has been a student (full time or exchange) at a school outside of the US, please share your experiences with me.
After comparing several programs within the States, I am still wondering where more courses more relevant to my interests are offered. The latest and closest program I have looked at is the Architecture program at the University of Melbourne. I also speak French and Mandarin Chinese, so I would be interested in places where my language skills would be practiced.
I am open to suggestions and advice and thank you in advance for your help! |
