I have downloaded Powershape-e from Delcam to see what their "free" CAD can do. I must admit I was pretty skeptical, but was mightily impressed by the breadth of functionality. (There is a financial catch if you want to export the work.)
For conceptual design it's pretty good - especially the surfacing. If you are used to surface modelling I think you'll like this.
If you want to learn what 3D CAD modelling is about it's great.
What else is out there? |

I have downloaded it. How do you get the total modelling to work? it looked neat, the idea of being able to add 3d textures on to shapes.
I want to have a go at adding textures like in the bottle example

I downloaded the tutorial called 'textures and designs' from the powershape-e download area. This shows you how to wrap a design round the neck of a bottle.
Once you have figured out how to use it you can play with extra 3D 'clipart' by downloading other triangle files from
http://www.delcam.com/clipart/gallery.htm
Hope this helps |

Found it. Tutorial is cool. I can see how this would be great for soles of shoes and packaging and bottles.
I saw the review in MCAD magazine where they were using it on a toy motor bike.

My head is spinning at the thought of different industries you could use it in.
Is there a user forum for it?
