Hello everyone,

I have been coming to this site for awhile and reading the discussions but haven't registered or posted until now (I'm a slacker, what can I say).

Anyway I am visiting NYC for the first time later this week. If you only had a few days to spend, what buildings/ sites would you check out? There is of course the obvious landmarks but I'm curious what all of you find most interesting. I would like to take some nice architectural photo's while I am there.

Thanks

The greatest city in the US. Nothing even compares, maybe Chicago comes close.

Day 1 - Take the 4,5 or 6 subway to 86th street head down, see the magnificent townhouses head to York Ave and the est river, look across to Roosevelt island, Triboro and The 59th street bridge built in 1903 probably NY's greatest bridge. Head west, past the Whitney museum, (overated I always thought, but make your own assessment, to Central Park, An absolute must, even though its better in the Summer when its packed with people. See the guigenheim on the parks edge, They'll let you walk in for free but you ghave to payt to get in further. Head to Upper West Side, Try to compare the differences between the architecture of the Upper East side to the Upper West side.
Note the differences in Refinement, Scale and use. See a great Paul Rudolf residence at 5th street as well. (east side)

Day 2 - Midtown - Start at 42nd and York, The U.N. complex. An astounding acheivement in Modernism. Great building by Lescaz @ 47th st and Lex maybe, a perfect example of 20's international style residence. Head west to Times Square, Quickly pass thru the throngs of tourists who only seem to stay there.
Kepe heading west till you hit the Hudson river, Make your way south on the newly constructed Pedestrianway along the river, to see Richard Meirers new Apartment buildings, (I think in the 20's), Incredible views all around.

Day 3 - Party in the East Village, Lower East side - get Pickles at Gus's - , Go To Soho, in TRIBECA see the renovated Manufacturing buildings, The scale of the streets of this area is astounding, Chinatown-the best food, get the "3 special ingredients" at Wing Wong on Canal street, make your way south to Battery park.

Theres so much to see and do, just walk and have fun.

Thanks Corb!! I appreciate it very much, looks like you know your way around. It should be a fun experience, especially since I have never been anywhere near the East coast.
