I am a stairbuilder looking for a simpler cad program than autocad . I want to draw simple 2d stair layouts for my customers. Currently I draw them by hand. I have tried several CAD programs , and they are to complicated for me. Would softplan be a easier program. I have seen the demo, and it looks great. I have purchassed autocad, chief arc, punch and a few others. Any suggestions which would work for me. Would anyone be interested in trading one of my programs for softplan? Thanks for all replys!! |

Hi Stairbuilder
I don't understand why you wouldn't catch up about AutoCAD , even you router and build profesional you woulld profit more from 3D than 2D that could be provided free with IntelliCAD . My first application was a spiral stair thing anyone will be able to copy from keyboard commands in a batch command function AutoLisp. ---- I had architects drawing spiralstairs to the moon, anyway no I can't se why you shuldn't find a more efficient or flexible way doing it 3D ,you could even make a 3D-H form the frames with exact fit for steps and decor. |

| there is a plethora of programs out there that spend alot of energy on stair design... its all about finding the one that is most suited to your tastes... i can't say i've ever met a 'stair designer' so i'm not really sure what features are most important to you |

Hi
You are quite right that there are many applications for that ,but I think that there are a great difference between ready blocks of ready made stairs dimentioned to fit within a special grid so other things can be manufactored in great scale, and what a crafts firm ask in terms of flexibility and how this work with maby different houses , acount about what sheets or wood to cut and in what precice measures. I often wondered when 3D digitizing will be so easy and cheap that when a carpenter take the measures for the stairs in an old house it will be just pointing around with a laser and then doing the plans from that , anyway the spiral stairs appliication I mention, ask a 3D model or a floor plan and is quite primitive --- but it will draw the actural stairs as how they will perform.
