I am planning on applying to grad school and i was wondering what materials were typically more important in an application package.

Portfolio
"Letter of intent"
undergrad GPA
GRE scores
experience (i am a licenced architect, but not far out of school)
letters of recommendation

I am most interested in urban design and historic preservation, so Virginia and Penn are at the top of my list...if that makes a difference in importance of materials.

Thanks in advance!! :D

from what i've seen and read the portfolio is very important in schools such as yale, princeton, harvard, probably penn....

and with the portfolio you probably want to demonstrate your breadth of knowledge or experience in some way... try to communicate you aren't just the same old grad student...

that is the advantage you have coming from an architecture undergrad program...you will be competing for spaces against people with degrees in latin american poetry of the 19th century or some other crazy major the ivy leagues like to offer for undergrad work... those people usually all end up going to 'grad-school summer camp' to make a portfolio, thus they all look about the same... you have the opportunity, especially since you have experience in the profession to show you are different and would be an exceptional addition to their program..

i don't know if it helps... but i would say the portfolio is what you should definitely spend time on
