Hey,
Has anyone tried the OSX driver for the HP design jet 500PS. I have been using PC 6.x since the upgrades on a G4 dual with both OSX 10 and classic up till now I have been saving drawings as a PS file and then printing from the Rip running in classic. this has been working OK but cumbersome. I would like to go up to a OSX driver which we have been waiting for (for almoast 2 years) but am reluctant to go there unless some one with guts has gone before me !!!!! I tried the Gimp print via buy me lunch and never got anywhere even with help from here, I also bought a third party driver but had fill issues and went back to classic printing.
Any help out there.

I downloaded it last week. It installed on my new PowerBook without fuss. It's MUCH, MUCH faster than printing in Classic. A D size RIP's and starts to print within a minute or two.
If you are running D size output via 36" wide rolls as I am, you will need to define a custom page size of 36" x 24". It's easy to do. No matter how I select landscape or portrait using the standard D designation, it always comes out rotated.
Another issue is paper type, you cannot select is via the driver. You must set it on the plotter. This is OK for me since I use roll stock and only have to select once when I load the roll.
I was using the native OSX gimp print with the Tylerbuymelunch driver previously. It also worked flawlessly. I still run it on my desktop G4.
Running the new HP driver or the OSX Gimp/Tyler driver is light years ahead of printing in classic. Go for it. |
