I've been working with the latest version of Powercadd 6 and noticed from the start that it was very sticky and sluggish compared to earlier versions; after awhile I got used to it and assumed it was an unavoidable effect of going to unix/osx etc...but then a friend got Powercadd 6 for his new G5 and it is very quick...is my machine just too slow for 6? it is a G4 laptop with 1Gb ram and 667mhz processor, which seems like it should be enough. I thought it might be the quartz imaging toggle and so turned it off though the dialog warns not to, but no difference. any ideas? thanks.

I had the same laptop. And when I got it, I thought [wrongly, as it turned out] that I would never need a bulky box sitting on the floor ever again; that all of my work would be done on the sleek TBook.

I was wrong.

PC performance is sluggish, as you describe, on that TBook. When I got a dual 1.8 G5, it was like night and day. And these G5's are not that expensive if you look around, and if you don't need a monitor.

It's just the price of progress. When you ask the software to do more, the software begs for more hardware. This makes the wetware unhappy, until the new box arrives.

There are other tips for reducing sluggishness that have been covered before. While it's not as zippy as PC2000 on my desktop dual 867 G4, I don't feel hampered by the sluggishness except when I have a lot of hatches in the drawing. Then it's molasses. If you have hatches in your drawings, try the "hide hatches" option in the View menu. You might also benefit by turning off "high quality drags" and "WYSIWYG font menu" in the preferences.

this has been covered before? I'm new to this site, so I may have missed that. I looked through the current topics before posting to see if it was up but didn't see anything. I will try the two suggestions though. thanks.

The WildTools Bullpen has a "Search Center" that allows you to search this forum, the old forum archives (in which much discussion about PC6 sluggishness can be found), the Architosh PCadd forum, and the websites of Engineered Software and WildTools (Sequoia Aircraft)
