I'm currently a student at community college, in my 3rd semester, (I started last spring). My first 2 semesters I was an undecided student but Ive always wanted to do architecture, I was accepted to Pratt and NYIT before but I didnt attend because of personal reasons. Now in my 3rd semester I took more math & science courses and draft and design. The thing is I want to apply to Cooper Union but if I do that Ill have to stay in community college for another year, since they dont accept students by spring semester, only fall. Im not sure if I should risk it (because it's a FIVE year program for a bachelors, not to mention the classes I missed out on)
or if I should just go somewhere else where I might not get that good of an architecture education, and I dont even know where else to apply. Pratt & NYIT are so expensive and Ive heard terrible things about these schools.
If I do decide to apply, Id have to create a portfolio, but I dont even know how to go about doing that since I only dedicated one semester to architecture. I can draw but I dont know how I would explain things properly or how I would describe the proportions.
any advice?? where do you guys attend school? do you recommend it? |

I'm at University of Washington about to enter 3rd year. the program is ok but very competitive. The pre req design classes teach you quite a bit about design and how to represent your ideas graphically. Its a risk however, only aprx 45 students are accepted into the undergrad program / yr. After that its 2 more years, then up to you if you want to go into a 2 yr M arch
if you major in something else you can still get your bachelors elsewhere then apply to the grad M arch of 3 yrs.
thats just here though, not to sure about the other schools you mentioned.
where are you? _________________ busy~ |

If I do that then I might as well attempt to get into Cooper union and do the whole 5 years (maybe 6) there, instead of getting a bachelors (3 more years, plus 3 for a M arch). I'm still not sure though, I want my bachelors in architecture so that I can an internship before I graduate and get a job while in grad school.
Im in CT btw. NY, CT, PA and NJ work for me but I don't know how good their universities are with architecture, it's not something you study at any random college in my opinion. Idk maybe Im making too big a deal of it? |
