I've just updated PowerCADD... what's with all the funky dimensions? If I enter a digital dimension, it converts it to a fraction (x/1024). Does this mean that everything is now inaccurate because it's rounding to the nearest 1024th of an inch? I haven't changed any settings, BYW.

I haven't updated yet, so have no notes to compare with you. Maybe I'll wait and see what others have to say.

Mike Cleveland, do you read this forum? If so, what ideas do you have? Thanks! ~Steve

This is in WildTools. Basically the idea is that if you type a dimension in a dialog, say
12.12345
but the display accuracy is set to two decimal places, then the WildTools dialog will show you
12.12345
and not
12.12
So the idea is that it will always show you what you typed and which will be used in the drawing and not rounded off. I have had some minor tweaking that I've done to this recently.

Hmmm... OK, they are all WildTools that cause this result, now that I'm thinking about it. But what it does is this:
If I enter 12.12345, then it uses 12 126/1024" instead of leaving it in decimal format. And 126/1024 isn't the same as .12345. Instead, it's equal to .123046875. So is this approach introducing tiny errors into the drawings? |

It doesn't introduce any errors in the drawing, but previously you could have had different things happen than what you thought was going to happen. The idea here is that it should always show you the dimension that you typed so you can see what will happen with you use the tool.
You should be able to clear up anything like this by typing the actual number you are thinking about, say 12.25, and it should then show you that number. But when you are typing a decimal and the display is set to a fraction, then the display will be in fractions.

Arrrrrgh! That makes me really queasy to see something different from what I entered... and especially when it's expressed in 1024th's of an inch, which make me have to grab a calculator. This is one of the rare cases where WT unnecessarily complicates things, IMO. So very un-WT-like!

Easy solution - GO METRIC! I know this is not possible for all in the US yet, but there is hope for the future…

Steve, I'm not using the most recent version of PowerCADD, but I have experienced a loss of preferences when upgrading. Have you verified that your Preference setting for "display accuracy specified" and the Units in your Drawing Setup are as you wish?

Steve,
In your Drawing Setup, are the dimensions set as Decimal Inches or Fractional Inches? _________________ Tool Palette Guide

Steve,
I just realised than due to E.S.' iterative, beta testing roll-out policy, I don't have 8.0.14.
You'll have to put up with a limited number of 'helpers' when you come across beta bugs these days 'cause none of us can be sure we've got versions that could have the same problems.
