Greenwashing is occuring in the full size brick business. Thin brick is easily 60% greener to use than full size brick.

I really hate that show. It's really exploitative if you ask me, gives me the creeps. But of course it's such a sappy "feel good" show, people think I'm some kind of ogre for saying so.

As far as NAHB trying to wedge in on what LEED has created, all's I can say is- Follow the Money.

I have not seen any green program that is more that just green washing. I guess they could possibly help a little but most likely only help the people who create, promote and work within them to get paid.

LEED is actually somewhat the "figure skating point system" version of achieving low carbon buildings. NAHB is doing a good job with the "system of evaluation" they have to work with. Participating in the skating competition remains optional.

The idea actually is to create a revolution in how buildings are appraised and sustainable buildings of course are to be evaluated and then valued accordingly. The free market value system however may be slow to march in step with good intentions. As a practical reality an international sustainable building code is inevitable and emergent. The Code for Sustainable Homes, in the UK, for example represents a cogent expression of sustainability standards and a model for the code for the desired low carbon future.
