When I started this thread I wanted to let others know that a particular feature of the program that many of us disliked had been revised by ENGSW. I also wanted to post a positive comment about their response and the change they made.
So, now that some of you, I assume, have obtained and installed the 8.0.12 update, I would like to know your reactions to the change in mouse wheel zooming behavior.

Hello? Hello? Is this on?
Did nobody notice the change in the mouse wheel zooming? Did anybody care? My impression was that many others felt as I did that the zooming needed improvement.
I really thought that the change was a great improvement. I also appreciated that ENGSW made the effort to respond to my request. I also hoped that others would feel the same way, and that they would say so here. The 8.0.12 change may not be the ultimate update, but it deserves a compliment.
Many of us have used this forum to bitch about the application, its behavior or its inadequacies, or the response and participation of ENGSW. I hoped that we would also use this form to recognize their efforts to improve the product.
Perhaps, if they have not done so, other PCADD users might take a moment to send ENGSW a brief note of appreciation. It is a nicer way to get their attention.

I did notice this, it's a nice change on a desktop mac. However, on a laptop, I prefer to not use the scroll wheel zooming as doing a two-finger swipe on the trackpad causes the drawing to zoom. Instead, if you leave this preference unchecked a two finger swipe on the trackpad causes the drawing to pan-I still use a mouse with the scroll button set to 'zoom in now' and 'zoom out', using SteereMouse to do this. This makes for a very nice drawing environment as I use the mouse with my right hand for drawing and zooming, the trackpad with my left hand for panning the drawing (also scrolls the layer menu when the curser is over it). In fact, I almost never use my desktop (Mac pro with 4 monitors) anymore in leu of my 15" laptop.
My take on the lack of activity on this forum is the program is now working extremely well-I can't remember the last crash. The only problem I have had is hangs when I am away from my home network, which I have been able to resolve by turning Airport off when away. |

My take is that there are fewer users now. Where are the Newbies?
I do appreciate that this change has been made, although I have yet to move on to v. 8. My version (6) doesn't crash, so I never thought that "not crashing" was an end in itself or a reason for leaving a once-vibrant forum.
As you see, I still check in.

I have to admit I might have noticed at first, but I just kept working away and just like the fact that ES is still refining the program. Unfortunately, I think the gnashing and grinding of teeth about ES support has been fueled by a certain narcissistic person on the forum. Or at least that is my impression. I have not had a problem with support from ES in the nearly 14 years of using their product.

According to a conversation I had with ES several months ago, PC 8 has sold better than PC7.
I think there are other factors limiting discussion here..... other than the aforementioned narcissist.
1. The program is pretty stable now and the users base is pretty entrenched. Most of us know how to use the program.
2. The advent of BIM is going to slowly eat away from the user base. So there could be some loss by changes in technology. I think new firms are going to invest in BIM rather than CAD programs that just draw lines and circles. Even LEED is talking about BIM. (Not to get that whole conversation or discussion or argument going again  )
3. There is very little mention of PC on the internet... either in reviews or even as a possible CAD solution. Arcat does not even list PC as a program. |

I check in on the forum and read new posts, but I am pretty much just working away on PC8 and don't have any problems to report...

The one thing that has impressed me about this forum over the years is the lack of name calling amongst members. We always stayed professional and except in rare cases when some AC@D troublemaker came in stiring the shit (and they deserved some heat), we always treated each other with respect. I suggest we get back to the days of old.
Frankly, the reason the board is quiet is that most of us have been slammed by the economy and are spending much of our day looking for work to keep firms afloat or looking for employment because we are unemployed. Even if there were a lot of bugs in the program right now I don't think we would be hearing the outcry we have heard in the past due the program's flaws being so much less of a priority than trying to regain a positive economic position and get this country and its businessmen/women back to being productive. I know I am ready for that!
