Im living in Belgium and i have hold my bachelor and m.arch. degrees from Turkey. In 2008 i got the equilliance of my architecture title here in europe and i have been doing my intern program to be able to register myself to the national architecture board of belgium.
By 2006, i have gained a green card from US lottery and now i want to move to states but i dont know anything about how can i work as a licenced architect in states and which processes do i have to follow.
as a summary, i hold my bachelor(4 years) and master(2 years) degrees and i m doing my intern program in europe and i want to move forward that in US.
I would be really glad if someone can help me with giving some usefull tips and informations..
Thanks,

I am not an expert nor have i been thru the prcess but since nobody else replied i will offer the following:
First determine what state you want to practice in. Yes we are licensed to practice by state. Some architects hold licenses in several states. I do. We are certified thru NCARB. This organization certifes our academic and professional information. Then thru that organization you can generally get license in other states thru reciprocity.
In your case contact the state licenseing board. They are all different but similar. So the general information you get will be the same. I understand basically that you will need to verify with transcripts your acedemic degrees that show the curriculum of the course work. In our country most states now require Intern Development Program (IDP) which requires several hundred hours on actual work experience in all factors of the discipline.
After you have the IDP you can register to take the ARE, which is our Architecture licensing exam. Something like 9 tests that take 40 hours, as i recall. I believe that you would need to take the exam also???? I am not sure. That is the best knowledge i have. I know a few architects from Columbia and Cuba trying to get thru the process now. It isn't quick or easy. So, do your homework now.
